1)

Which son is the Torah referring to?

1.

Rashi (in Bo, 13:14): It is referring to the wise son, who knows how to articulate his question 1 - how ro distinguish between Eidos, Chukim and Mishpatim.

1

As opposed to the foolish son. Refer to Sh'mos, 13:14:1:1.

2)

What exactly is the Chacham asking?

1.

Ramban: He wants to know on what the Eidos 1 are testifying, the purpose of the Chukim, whose reason is hidden from us, and the connection between the punishments (the Mishpatim) and the sins. 2

2.

Seforno: He is asking why the seven Mitzvos of B'nei No'ach will not suffice.

3.

Moshav Zekenim (in Bo Sh'mos, 12:26): Refer to 6:21:1:3.

1

Ramban: Which commemorate and testify on Hashem's miracles - such as Matzah, Succah, Pesach, Shabbos, Tefilin and Mezuzah.

2

Ramban: Such as stoning someone who desecrates the Shabbos, burning a man who has relations with a woman and her mother or giving Malkos to someone who plants Kil'ayim, as opposed to the Torah's civil laws, such as that of an ox or a pit that damages and the Dinim of the four kinds of Shomrim, which are righteous and good and easily understood by everybody.

3)

What are the connotations of the word "Ki Yish'alcha Bincha Machar"?

1.

Rashi: "Machar" also has connotations of 'some time in `the future', not necesarily 'tomorrow'.

4)

Why does the Torah insert "Machar" by the Chacham and by the Tam (in Bo Sh'mos, 13:14), but not the Rasha and by the she'Eino Yode'a Lish'ol (Ibid., 12:26 & 13:8, respectively)?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah (based on the Malbim who defines the Tam as a follower of the Rasha and the she'Eino Yode'a li'She'ol as a Talmid of the Rasha) 1 : Because, as opposed to the Rasha, who attacks the Avodah even as it is being performed, the Chacham and the Tam only come to ask at a later date, after things are already partially forgotten. 2

1

See Oznayim la'Torah.

2

See Oznayim la'Torah, who elaborates.

5)

Seeing as the Chacham inserts the word "asher Tzivah Hashem ... Eschem', how does he differ from the Rasha, who declared "Mah ha'Avodah ha'Zos lachem", precluding himself from the Avodah?

1.

Rashi (in his Sidur), Da'as Zekenim, Hadar Zekenim and Rosh: Because, he also mentions "Hashem Elokeinu", thereby including himself in the Mitzvos.

6)

Why does the Chacham insert the word "Eschem"?

1.

Rashi (Ibid.), Da'as Zekenim, Hadar Zekenim and Rosh: Because he was not there when Hashem issued the command.

2.

Oznayim la'Torah: Because his father or father's father stood at Har Sinai, and he wants to hear from him the details of what he heard. 1
