Malbim: Sometimes the capitol falls from its grandeur, but it remains a commerce city, and merchants who used to trade there continue to do so. Here, Bavel did not leave a coal - all your merchants went elsewhere.

Rashi: Each man to his path, in front of his face, [he strayed].
