Why does the Torah see fit to mention that all the money in Kena'an was exhausted?

Ramban: Because the Egyptians who came before Yosef mentioned it. They asked him that, since the Kena'anim were not coming to him to buy grain, what was the point in letting them (the Egyptians) die, and allow the grain that was available to rot. 1

The Seforno (to 47:19), presents a similar argument - Even assuming that there is no more money and no more animals, seeing as there is grain, why allow them all to die of hunger!'
