What are "Pa'arei Pishtim"?
Rashi: They are worn on the head. Radak ? the Torah calls them Migba'os. Here they are called Pa'arei, for they are on the head for Pe'er (glory). Also the Torah says "u'Migba'os Ta'aseh Lahem l'Chavod ul'Sif'ares" (Shemos 28:40).
What is the significance of "Al Masneihem"?
Radak: This is like the Torah says "mi'Masnayim v'Ad Yerechayim Yihyu" (Shemos 28:42).
What do we learn from "Lo Yachgeru ba'Yaza"?
Rashi citing Zevachim 18b: Kohanim do not wear the Avnet (sash) in a place where people are Mezi'ah (sweat), i.e. below the loins or above the elbows. Rather, they gird even with the elbows.
Rashi: The Torah forbids Kohanim to wear wool, because it makes the body and flesh sweat 1 .
Radak citing Targum Yonasan: They will not gird on their hips, rather, over their hearts. Radak ? Yaza is a noun, like Nega. There is a Kamatz under the Yud because it is Sof Pasuk.
Malbim: The Avnet will not have wool, which causes the body to sweat. We hold that a Kohen Hedyot's Avnet was of Kil'ayim (included wool), unlike the Kohen Gadol's Avnet of Yom Kipur, which was all linen. The verse teaches that in the future, Kohanim of Bnei Tzadok will have some level of importance like the Kohen Gadol 2 ? between the level of a Kohen Gadol and the [current] level of a Kohen Hedyot. The opinion that a Hedyot's Avnet was always pure linen, he learns oppositely ? even though in some ways a Kohen Hedyot will rise to a level resembling a Kohen Gadol, this is only to be stringent, like the haircut of a Kohen Gadol (refer to 44:20:3:1) and to marry only a Besulah, but not to change garments from linen to Kil'ayim.
This is difficult. Except for Yom Kipur, a Kohen Gadol serves with an Avnet containing wool; some say that also a Kohen Hedyot does! All the Me'il is all wool (except for the bells)! (PF)
