Will these be only in the Midbar?
Rashi: All species found in settled places will be found even in the Midbar. I will give all types of Chachmah, good and Shalom.
Radak: Refer to 41:19:2:4.
Malbim: It is a Chidush, for all of the trees listed are not common in the Midbar.
What is the significance of the trees mentioned in our verse!
Bava Basra 80b: There are 10 types of cedars - Erez (cedar), Shitah (pine), Hadas (myrtle 1 ), Etz Shemen, Berosh (box tree), Tidhar (teak?), and S'ashur 2 .
Rashi: They are barren trees used for building.
Radak #1: They will be tall, like they were created in the days of Bereishis, and they will be for shade, lest the hot sun strike people returning from Galus.
Radak #2: The deserts will have water and great trees, and people will say that Hashem did so for the honor of Yisrael, and thank Him for this great wonder.
What is "Etz Shemen"?
Rashi (Bava Basra 80b): It is balsam.
Radak: This is pine. It is not olive, for a verse in Nechemyah (8:15) says "v'Havi'u Alei Zayis v'Alei Etz Shemen." The oil that comes from it is pitch.
Malbim: It is for eating and illumination.
Why does it mention "Aravah"?
Malbim: Normally, thorns grow there. All these species will grow there "Yachdav" (together) - one cannot attribute this to chance!
