Why should they send the sickle?

1.

Rashi: Those who go on my mission to wound Hashem's enemies, send swords 1 ...

2.

Radak: The Goyim are compared to ripened grain, and it is time to be harvested. One sends the sickle to cut it. So these Goyim, their time came to die via the sword in this valley.

3.

Malbim: This explains the three wars again. The first time, they are like standing grain that was not harvested. Until now, all dwelled in serenity in their lands. He commands the reapers to send the sickle to cut the grain.

Really, they are swords. Rashi explains why they are called sickles (refer to 4:13:2:1). (PF)

2)

What do we learn from "Ki Vashal Katzir"?

1.

Rashi: The time came. It is like grain - they harvest it with sickles when it is ripened.

2.

Malbim: The grain ripened and it is time to harvest it (their measure for sin was full).

3)

Why does it say "Bo'u Redu Ki Mal'ah Gas"?

1.

Rashi: Come to stomp the grapes. I.e. their measure for sin is full. Redu is an expression of pressing and domination, like "u'Rdu bi'Dgas ha'Yam" (Bereishis 1:28).

2.

Radak: Descend to this valley, for it is like a winepress full of grapes that it is proper to press them. So you Beis Yisrael, stomp these Goyim in this valley, and send the sword against them.

3.

Malbim: This refers to the second war. The grapes were already harvested; they are in the winepress, but were not stomped to extract their wine. He commands to stomp them, for this is the time.

4)

What is the meaning of "Heshiku ha'Yekavim"?

1.

Rashi: The sound of wine flowing to the pit, it is heard.

2.

Radak: The winepresses are full to the point that wine flows on top and spills. This is a Mashal for spilling blood.

3.

Malbim: The third time the grapes were already stomped, just the wine was not drawn, and they did not separate the pits and peels. He commands to draw the wine to the pit.

5)

Why does it add "Ki Rabah Ra'asam"?

1.

Radak: Their time to die came, for their evil is great that they and their fathers did to Yisrael.

2.

Malbim: This explains the Nimshal. Their evil was great, therefore they must be stomped and trampled - "Purah Darachti Levadi... v'Edrechem b'Api" (Yeshayah 63:3).
