Malbim: Hashem did not put in its nature love of its children 1 . The eggs can easily be lost, via inadvertent trampling, or Chayos that eat them.

Malbim (18): This is Hashgachah. It gives birth to about 30 eggs; Hashem does not want it to multiply so much, so it does not guard them. He wants the Chasidah to multiply, and it gives birth to few eggs, so it guards them very well.

What is "Tedusheha"?

Malbim: It opens the egg to extract the food, like Dash (threshing), to extract grain from the chaff.
