What is the significance of thorns coming in place of wheat?
Rashi: If I did not do (like I said, i.e. I sinned), thorns should come in place of wheat.
Rashi citing Tanchuma Re'eh 15: The Torah teaches that a field that grows thorns, it is good to plant wheat in it. A field that grows Bashah, it is good to plant barley in it.
Malbim: Did I steal a field and depress the owner, and therefore thorns come in place of wheat, and the land is desolate? I did not - I bought fields for money! The land does not scream due to my sins!
What is "Bashah"?
Rashi: It is something Mav'ish (putrefying), like "Be'ushim".
Ibn Ezra: It is a kind of thorn, like "va'Ya'as Be'ushim."
Are these Iyov's last words? He has Nevu'os after this!
Rashi citing Pesikta: Iyov said, if I did not do (like I said), my words should cease, and I should not be able to tell You "Bi'arti ha'Kodesh."
Malbim: This concludes his answers to his three friends. Also they ceased to answer.
