Were the pillars 35 Amos long?
'Rashi': They were 35 tall.
'Rashi' writes that the pillars were 35 Amos tall. In Melachim I, 7:15 it says that they were 18 Amos tall!
Refer to Melachim I, 17:5:4:1.
'Rashi' writes that he formed both at once, and later separated them, and each was 18. If so, initially the length was 36. Why does it say here that they were 35 Amos?
'Rashi' citing Rashi and R. Yosef: One Amah (the half Amah on top of each) is not counted, for it is made unlike the rest of it - "v'Al Rosh ha'Amudim Ma'ase Shushan" (Melachim I, 7:22) 1 . Malbim ? after separating them, he beat the top with a hammer Ma'ase Shushan; this extended each half an Amah.
'Rashi': The Tzefes (refer to 3:15:4:1 was a hollow cover on the pillars. Its thickness was a half-Amah, this was added to the height of each half-pillar.
Radak: A half Amah of each pillar entered the crown 2 .
Gra (Melachim I, 7:16): When he formed them, an Amah of one entered the other.
What is the "Tzefes"?
'Rashi': It was a hollow crown on the pillars. In Melachim I, 7:16 it is called Koseres. Radak ? Tzefes is like Tzipuy (a plating). Malbim ? it is an expression of Tzenif (a turban). Or, it is Tzofeh (looks) above. Because it had two parts, both are called Tzefes.
'Rashi' writes that Tzefes is called Koseres in Sefer Melachim. In Melachim II, 25:17 it says that it was three Amos. Here it says five Amos!
Refer to Melachim I, 7:16:4:1,2.
