Why did he put his hand in the Tzalachas?

1.

Rashi: It was due to the cold; Tzalachas is a hot pot.

Malbim: It was in order to eat (there is food in it), but then he wearied to return his hand to his mouth.

Malbim (the Nimshal): Even if they give to him essential food of the Nefesh, he will bury his hands in the Kli, and not take the food himself. E.g. they will give to him tales of the Torah that it is essential to know them; he 'eats' the external garment and tales, and does not take the content, Musar and Chachmah under the garment.
