Why did the Torah specify pure gold for [covering] the Aron, and [Stam] gold for the staves?

The Chafetz Chaim (2, p.640): The Aron represents those who learn Torah. They must be at a great moral and spiritual level. The staves represent those who support Torah. We cannot demand that they be at the same level as those who actually study it.
