Malbim: (a) They were saved every time they called - unlike one who trusts in people, who cannot save all the time. (b) A human is not always near the one who trusts in him. You were always near them, to hear their screams! (c) Refer to 22:6:2:2.

What shame were they spared?

1.

Radak: They were not ashamed that they trusted in You.

2.

Malbim: One who trusts in people is ashamed that he lowered himself to trust in a person, like himself. Their trust in You was honorable.
