1)

What are the implications of the (otherwise superfluous) words "Vesafsu bo Aviv ve'Imo"?

1.

Sanhedrin, 71a: It implies that if either his father or his mother does not have hands, he cannot become a Ben Sorer u'Moreh. 1

2.

Sifri: It implies that if he does not have a father or a mother, he cannot become a ben Sorer u'Moreh 2 (and by the same token, we learn from "Vehotzi'u oso" that if either of his parents is lame, he cannot become a Ben Sorer u'Moreh - Sanhedrin, 71a).

1

In similar vein, the Gemara learns the same thing from "Vehotzi'u oso" in the event that one of his parents is lame. See Torah Temimah, note 140.

See Torah Temimah, note 140.

2)

What is the definition of "Sha'ar Mekomo"?

1.

Rashi (in Sanhedrin, 49a) Targum Onkelos and Targum Yonasan: It refers to the location of the Sanhedrin Ketanah, since that is where they used to judge.

3)

Why does the Torah write "el Ziknei Iyro ve'el Sha'ar Mekomo" which seems to refer to "Aviv ve'Imo" - (and not 'el Ziknei Iyram ve'el Sha'ar Mekomam')?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah: Because that would suggest that his parents were to blame for his rebellion, when in reality, they are innocent, bearing in mind that they (warned him and also that they)c opted to bring him to Beis=Din to be sentenced to death. 1

See Oznayim la'Torah.

4)

"Ve'hotzi'u oso el Ziknei Iyro". What if the town does not have elders?

1.

The reference to elders is only Lechatchilah and is not crucial to the Din of Sorer u'Moreh. 1
