Seforno: Their quarrel with Moshe was why he brought the congregation of Hashem to this desert, and against Hashem, why He took them out of Egypt.

What are the connotations of "ve'Lu Gava'nu bi'Geva Acheinu"?

Rashi and Targum Onkelos: It means 'We wish we had died by means of the same death 1 as our brothers'. 2

Targum Yonasan: 'We wish we had died when our brothers died'. 3

Rashi: Had they meant that they wished they had died when their brothers died, then they would have said (not "bi'Geva", but) 'bi"Gevo'a'.

Rashi: Pestilence - which is not as horrific a death as that of thirst.
