What do we learn from "va'Tilakach"?

1.

Vilna Gaon: Others took her. She was totally forced. Malbim - she was taken not only to Beis ha'Melech, rather, to Beis Malchuso - his special room. (Even once she was in the palace, she would not go to his room.)

What is the significance of being taken in Teves?

1.

Torah Temimah citing Megilah 13a: In winter, a body enjoys (the warmth of) another body. Rashi - Hashem arranged this, to endear her to him.

2.

Vilna Gaon: The nights are long 1 ; he had much Bi'ah with her. His two servants got angry about this, like the Gemara says 2 !

1

A support for this (over the Gemara's Perush, that it is cold in Teves) is that the nights are longest in Teves, but the end of the winter (e.g. Adar - Bava Metzi'a 106b) is colder than Choref (midwinter, e.g. Teves) (Rashi Bereishis 8:22). (PF)

2

Megilah 13b: Bigsan and Seresh complained that from when Esther came, they do not get to sleep. Rashi - she was dear to him, and he had Bi'ah with her greatly, and was thirsty (they constantly needed to give to him to drink).

3)

What is the significance of being taken in the seventh year of his kingship?

1.

Vilna Gaon citing the Yerushalmi: This teaches that she hid herself for three years. He killed Vashti in his third year. Esther entered Beis ha'Nashim in his sixth year, was adorned for 12 months, and came to him in his seventh year.
