What is the significance of "Kalu va'Dema'os Einai"?

Rav Sadya Gaon: They 1 said, my eyes are consumed from tears. Palgei Mayim - this is due to what my sin caused (refer to 2:11:5:1).

Ri Kara (from Eichah Rabah 2:15: There is a limit how many tears the eye can shed. If it sheds more, it is blinded. Three kinds of tears are good for the eye, and three are bad. Tears due to mascara, mustard and a [potion of a] doctor 2 . Tears of laughter are better than all of them. Tears due to speech, smoke and crying are bad for the eye; tears of Shichor 3 are worse than all of them. A case occurred in which a woman's young son died, and she cried over him until her eye was blinded. They made a cure for her, but it did not work - "Kalu va'Dema'os Einai."

Magihah (in Toras Chayim): The Zekenim and Besulos mentioned in verse 10. Ibn Ezra - each Chacham says so when he remembers the days of hunger in Tziyon.

Etz Yosef (on the Midrash): The smell of the potion makes the eye tear, even without putting it in the eye.

What is the meaning of "Chamarmaru Me'ai"?

Rav Sadya Gaon: They (refer to 2:11:1:1*) said, my innards are pained from hunger.

Rashi: They were shriveled. Innards normally shrivel when they are cast in a fire.

Did the liver spill to the ground?!

Rav Sadya Gaon: It is as if it spilled to the ground.

What is the meaning of "be'Atef"?

Rav Sadya Gaon: He wriggles amidst hunger.

Rashi: He faints. Ibn Ezra - This is Nif'al conjugation; the Hei is omitted, like in "be'Hareg 1 Hereg" (Yechezkel 26:15).

Rid: An expression of Ituf applies, because part covers another part, like "va'Amakim Ya'atfu Var" (Tehilim 65:14).

Why does it mention infants?

1.

Palgei Mayim: The sin of Bitul Torah is so great that it causes punishment to infants who never sinned.
