In Melachim I, Perek 5 it says only that Shlomo asked Chiram for workers to cut trees. Here he asked for a great amount, and that Chiram send the wood, and specified different kinds of wood, and asked for a Chacham to work with different metals and materials. This is not mentioned there! Here Shlomo said that he will give 20,000 Korim of wheat and of barley for the workers. There he promised to give whatever Chiram will request! There, Shlomo said you know that no one knows how to cut trees like Tzidonim. Here (verse 7), he said I know! Also Chiram's reply is different here and there!
Refer to Melachim I, 5:16:2:1 and the note there.
Why did he mention that Chiram sent wood for David's house?
Malbim (2): Shlomo hinted that also he will build a house of cedar [and this is why he needs more cedars than David left for him].
Malbim: If you sent cedars for the honor of a mortal king, all the more so you should send for Hashem's honor 1 !
Malbim said (verse 2) that Shlomo needed more wood only for the sake of his house! Did Shlomo intend to use Chiram's wood for the Mikdash, and what David left for Shlomo's own house?! Some say that he did not use David's gold and silver for the Mikdash, but cedars should be no worse than copper. He used David's copper for the Mikdash! (PF. Refer to 5:1:1:2-3, 5:1:1:3**)
