Verse 1 already said that there were 70,000 carriers. Why is this repeated?

1.

'Rashi': There was an interruption. Now it returns to discuss building the Mikdash. Sometimes the verse repeats after an interruption within one Pasuk 1 , e.g. "Kechu Lachem Machtos?; va'Yomer Moshe?; u'Kchu Ish Machtaso" (Bamidbar 16:6, 16-17). All the more so here it repeats, after an interruption of many verses!

Indeed, below (3:3) 'Rashi' says that the verse repeats after an interruption within the Pasuk, but this is not so for the example Rashi gives here! Perhaps the text should say 'Parshah' (in Chumashim, the letters Samach and Pei denote closed and open Parshah breaks). Some 'fix' the text to say 'Perek'; they err. Goyim divided Tanach (except for Tehilim) into Perakim (Daf Al ha'Daf Sanhedrin 93b), about 140 years after Rashi's death (Ohr Yisrael 12 5758, p.144! Even if this was before 'Rashi', he would not make a Kal v'Chomer based on Goyim's division into chapters! - PF)
