Why does it say "Ben Chur"?
'Rashi' #1: It means Bno Chur.
'Rashi' #2, Radak, Malbim #1: Chur ben Kalev gave birth to a son, and called him Kalev.
Malbim #2: Our verse teaches descendants of Kalev ben Chetzron, i.e. "Ben Chur? Shoval." However, the Esnachta under Efrasah affirms my first Perush 1 (refer to 2:50:1:2).
I.e. the first segment of the verse stands by itself; it already taught who is Ben Chur. (PF)
Why does it say "Bechor Efrasah"?
'Rashi': Chur was Efras' Bechor, but not Kalev's Bechor - "va'Teled Lo Es Chur 1 ."
It says that Kalev fathered children from Azuvah, and when she died, he married Efras (18-19). This implies that Chur was Efras' Bechor, but not Kalev's Bechor. (PF)
Who was Shoval's father?
'Rashi' #1: Kalev, Chur's father.
'Rashi' #2, Radak: Kalev ben Chur. Radak - above (20), it taught that Chur ben Kalev ben Yefuneh fathered Uri. Now it teaches that Chur had another son Kalev, and this Kalev's sons. Malbim #1 - above, it taught only the most important sons.
Malbim #2: It was Chur. We find below (4:1, 4) "Chetzron v'Charmi v'Chur v'Shoval"; "Eleh Vnei Chur", and Kalev is not mentioned. However, the Esnachta under Efrasah affirms my first Perush (refer to 2:50:1:3*).
What is "Avi Kiryas Ye'arim"?
Radak #1: He was the master of Kiryas Ye'arim. The same applies to "Avi Veis Lechem? Avi Veis Gader" (51).
Radak #2: All the people of the city were his descendants. The same applies to "Avi Veis Lechem? Avi Veis Gader."
