Why did Geshur and Aram take the cities, and why is this written here?

1.

'Rashi', Radak: Geshur is "ha'Geshuri veha'Ma'achasi" (Devarim 3:14). They were near the eastern border of Yisrael. In the days of the Shofetim, Yisrael sinned, and Hashem handed them over to Aram. David returned them; it is written here for his honor.

2)

Here it says 60 cities. The previous verse said 23 cities!

1.

Radak: The 23 were the big cities among the 60; all of them were in Gil'ad.

2.

Malbim: In all, including Novach's conquest of Kenas and its villages (Bamidbar 32:42), there were "Shishim Ir Kol Chevel Argov" from Og (Devarim 3:4).

3)

Who are "Kol Eleh Bnei Machir"?

1.

Radak: All these cities were of Bnei Machir, i.e. of Bnei Bas Machir. It should say li'Vnei Machir; the prefix Lamed is omitted. Also "Sarei Gedudim Hayu Ven Sha'ul" should say l'Ven Sha'ul.

2.

Radak citing Yevamos 62b: They are the sons of Bas Machir. This shows that grandsons, even sons of a daughter, are considered sons 1 .

3.

Malbim: It is Seguv, Ya'ir and their sons, from whom these cities were taken. They were considered Bnei Machir due to their mother. Machir was Gil'ad's father, and they merited these cities of Gil'ad due to him.

1

Radak: The Halachah does not follow this. The Perush is difficult. Why does it say "Kol Eleh"? It mentioned only Seguv!
