What are the implications of "Im K'mos Kol Adam Yemusun Eileh"?

1.

Refer to 16:29:1:1-4.

2.

Nedarim, 39b: It implies that they will not languish on their death-beds and that people will come to visit them. And we learn from here that it is a Mitzvah to visit the sick. 1

3.

Oznayim la'Torah: It implies that they will not die the way others die - either be way of a natural death, or following an illness, or even at the hand of Beis-Din.

1

See Torah Tmimah, note 18

2)

What are the connotatins of "u'Fekudas Kol Adam Yipakeid Aleihem"?

1.

. Targum Yonasan: It 'If they live all of their alloted years like other people'.

3)

What are the implications of "Lo Hashem Shelachani"?

1.

Rashi #1: It implies that, if Korach, Dasan and Aviram will die a natural death, it will prove that everything Moshe did was of his own accord and Korach's claims against him were justified.

2.

Rashi #2 (in Seifer ha'Pardes): It implies that if they will die a natural death, then even he will deny his own claims and concede that Hashem did not send him to teach Torah and Mitzvos. Moshe was speaking with Ru'ach ha'Kodesh and he knew that they would not die a natural death. 1 What he therefore meant was that, if Hashem did not produce this creation to verify his prophecy, 2 Korach and his congregation would be able to justify their claims that all of the nation are holy ... and that Moshe and Aharon are raising ourselves above the congregation.

3.

Ramban: It implies that if they die a natural death, Hashem did not send him to take Yisrael out of Egypt. 3

4.

Rashbam: It implies that, in the event that they die a natural death, then the choice to bring Ketores was his own.

1

Rashi: Moreover, seeing as all of Yisrael had seen that Hashem spoke with him on Har Sinai, his statement per se was senseless.

2

By substantiating his choice of the (otherwise impossible) death that they would suffer.

3

Ramban: As in ve'Zos ha'Berachah Devarim, 34:11 and in Sh'mos, 3:12.

4)

Why did Moshe decree this death on Dasan and Aviram more than on the whole of Yisrael, who queried him "Lamah He'elisanu mi'Mitzrayim?" on a number of occasions?

1.

Ramban: Because by stating 1 "Ki Sistarer aleinu Gam Histarer" 2 , they committed two grave sins; 1. They dishonored their Rebbe, and 2. they denied all that Hashem had done for them in Egypt, in the desert and Ma'amad Har Sinai, where Hashem had explicitly stated "ve'Gam B'cha Ya'aminu le'Olam". 3

2.

See 16:26:1:1 and note.

1

In Pasuk 13.

2

Ramban: Korach too, said "u'Madu'a Tisnas'u " (in Pasuk 3). Consequently, he too, suffered the same fate as Dasan and Aviram.

3

Ramban: And they were now claiming that Moshe was not worthy to lead them and that everything that he had performed with them turned out bad. And it is for the same reason that Moshe was angry with them - See Pasuk 15.
