What is the meaning of "Hoche'ach b'Davar Lo Yiskon"?
Rashi: Will a Chacham debate about something that will not benefit him?! Yiskon is pleasure 1 , like "u'Sehi Lo Sochenes", "Yisachen Bam."
Ibn Ezra: Some say that Yiskon is learning 2 .
Malbim (2-3): Also, a Chacham must speak only for a benefit, and surely not words that will damage! He should not debate about something without benefit!
Why did he add "u'Milim Lo Yo'il Bam"?
Devar Eliyahu #1: Sometimes one does something to benefit immediately, and sometimes he acts for future benefit. Your words "Lo Yiskon" immediately, and "Lo Yo'il Bam" later!
Devar Eliyahu #2: Sometimes one does something to benefit himself, and sometimes he acts for another's benefit. Your words "Lo Yiskon" for yourself, and "Lo Yo'il Bam" for others!
Malbim: Not only must the debate itself have a benefit - also his words and metaphors in which he clothes the debate should be for a benefit!
