They went from east to west. If the water would go to the north and south, this would enable them to go on the dry land. How did it help that the water went to the east and west? (PF)

What nations were there? Yisrael live west of the Yarden! Even though each Shevet is called an Am (Rashi Devarim 33:3), if 'Rashi' refers to the Shevatim, he should say Shevatim! Perhaps he holds like Malbim (refer to 12:16:3:4). (PF)
