1)

What did Mishael and Eltzafan do with their bodies outside the camp?

1.

Ramban: Moshe commanded them to take them outside the camp and to then remove their Bigdei Kehunah and dress them in shrouds.

2.

Targum Yonasan: They buried them there.

2)

Seeing as Misha'el and Eltzafan were Levi'im and were therefore not permitted to enter the Heichal, how did they remove Nadav and Avihu?

1.

Ramban (in Pasuk 4): Kohanim are permitted to enter to remove Tum'ah, and in the event that there are no Kohanim available, Levi'im may enter (Sifra 1 Emor 3:3:11).

2.

Targum Yonasan: They pulled them out using metal hooks which they threw inside and which hooked on to their shirts (R. Akiva in the Sifra - they pulled them out with a spear.)

3.

R. Eliezer, in the Sifra: An angel struck them inside and expelled them (outside the Mishkan).

1

The Sifra is discussing making a plating for the walls of the Heichal, and not Tum'ah (PF). However, if they are permitted to enter to plate the walls, then how much more so to remove Tum'ah!

3)

"va'Yisa?um be'Kutonosam" Whose tunics?

1.

Sifri: It refers to the tunics of Nadav and Avihu ? seeing as the Kohanim, and not the Levi'im, were commanded to wear Kutanos, 1 and Nadav and Avihu wre Levi'im.

1

See Tetzaveh, Sh'mos, 28:40.

4)

Why does the Torah need to inform us that they took them out with (or by) their Kutanos?

1.

Rashi: To teach us that their clothes were not burned, only their Neshamos. 1

2.

Ramban: Refer to 10:5:1:1.

3.

Seforno: To teach us that they did not bother to remove the Bigdei Kehunah before leaving the camp, since they had become Tamei anyway.

4.

Oznayim la'Torah: It seems that they were afraid to touch their bodies, in case the fire affected them too.

5.

Targum Yonasan: To explain how they removed them (Refer to 10:5:2:2) since they were not permitted to carry them out.

1

Via two strips of fire that entered their nostrils (Rashi).

5)

The Sifra states that their bodies wereearing in mind that a burned body is not Metamei (Nidah 27b), why does the Gemara say in Sukah, 25b that Misha'el and Eltzafan were Tamei Meis due to Nadav and Avihu?

1.

Moshav Zekenim: Because the Sheled (the spine and ribs 1 ) was intact in which case it is Metamei. 2

2.

Moshav Zekenim (citing R. Shemayah): Because they were still quivering. 3

1

Hadar Zekenim: When they fell, the Sheled collapsed. Why were they Metamei? We must say that they fell gently, and the Sheled was intact.

2

As the Gemara states in Nidah 27b.

3

He wavered about [answering based on] the Gemara in Nidah. See answer #1.
