Rashi (from Eichah Rabah 1:56): You caused that they hate me. You separated me from their food and drink, and from marrying them. Had I intermarried with them, they would have mercy on [me] and their grandchildren.
Ri Kara: They rejoiced that this was a decree from you. Initially, when they heard that Nebuchadnetzar was preparing to besiege Yerushalayim, "Lo He'eminu Malchei Eretz v'Chol Yoshevei Sevel Ki Yavi Tzar v'Oyev b'Sha'arei Yerushalayim" (4:12). When they heard Yirmeyah prophesize "Ki Hineni Korei l'Chol Mishpechos Mamlechos Tzafonah Ne'um Hashem u'Va'u v'Nasnu Ish Kis'o Pesach Sha'arei Yerushalayim" (Yirmeyah 1:15), they rejoiced.
