How did Hashem show His hatred of Esav?

1.

Rashi: He pushed him off to Eretz Se'ir due to his brother Yakov 1 . Normally, one who has two sons, the older chooses the nice portion [of his father's property]!

2.

Radak: I did not give to him part of Eretz Yisrael, rather, Har Se'ir.

1

Bereishis 36:6 implies that Esav decided to leave. However, we can say that Hashem put to Esav's heart lo leave, or He caused this via giving great success to Yakov. (PF)

2)

Why does it mention Hashem's hatred of Esav?

1.

Radak: It is due to his deeds and his seed's deeds - after they did evil to Yisrael and rejoiced over their Churban and Galus.

2.

Malbim: If you will say that Hashem's love of Yisrael is due to the combination of love for their Avos, and Yisrael's deeds, even though He would not love Esav (for he lacks good deeds), but He would not hate him, since there is a reason to love him (his Avos). Rather, He loves Yisrael due to their deeds, and hates Esav due to his deeds.

3)

What is the significance of making his mountains desolate?

1.

Rashi: They are unlike the mountains of Eretz Yisrael.

2.

Radak: It says Harav, for his land is called Har Se'ir. Even though also your land became desolate, you returned to it and dwell in it. They will never return to their land - it will always be desolate and "l'Sanos Midbar." This shows that I loved Yakov and hated Esav!

4)

What is the meaning of "l'Sanos Midbar"?

1.

Rashi: It is a habitat of Sanim (snakes) [Radak - and Bnos Ya'anah (ostriches)].
