נַחֵם ה' אֱ-לֹקֵינוּ אֶת אֲבֵלֵי צִיּוֹן וְאֶת אֲבֵלֵי יְרוּשָׁלָיִם, וְאֶת הָעִיר הָאֲבֵלָה וְהַחֲרֵבָה וְהַבְּזוּיָה וְהַשּׁוֹמֵמָה; הָאֲבֵלָה מִבְּלִי בָנֶיהָ, וְהַחֲרֵבָה מִמְּעוֹנוֹתֶיהָ, וְהַבְּזוּיָה מִכְּבוֹדָהּ, וְהַשּׁוֹמֵמָה מֵאֵין יוֹשֵׁב. וְהִיא יוֹשֶׁבֶת וְרֹאשָׁהּ חָפוּי, כְּאִשָּׁה עֲקָרָה שֶׁלֹּא יָלָדָה. וַיְבַלְּעוּהָ לִגְיוֹנוֹת, וַיִּירָשׁוּהָ עוֹבְדֵי זָרִים, וַיָּטִילוּ אֶת עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל לֶחָרֶב, וַיַּהַרְגוּ בְזָדוֹן חֲסִידֵי עֶלְיוֹן. עַל כֵּן צִיּוֹן בְּמַר תִּבְכֶּה, וִירוּשָׁלַיִם תִּתֵּן קוֹלָהּ. לִבִּי לִבִּי עַל חַלְלֵיהֶם, מֵעַי מֵעַי עַל חַלְלֵיהֶם, כִּי אַתָּה ה' בָּאֵשׁ הִצַּתָּהּ וּבָאֵשׁ אַתָּה עָתִיד לִבְנוֹתָהּ, כָּאָמוּר: וַאֲנִי אֶהְיֶה לָּהּ נְאֻם ה' חוֹמַת אֵשׁ סָבִיב וּלְכָבוֹד אֶהְיֶה בְתוֹכָהּ. בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה', מְנַחֵם צִיּוֹן וּבוֹנֵה יְרוּשָׁלָיִם.

Console, Hashem our G-d, the mourners of Zion and the mourners of Jerusalem, and the city that is in mourning, in ruins, degradation, and desolation. It is in morning from absence of its children, in ruins from its former homes, in degradation from its former glory, and in desolation with no inhabitants. She sits with head covered over, like a barren woman who has never given birth. Devoured by legions, and conquered by worshippers of foreign gods, who have put your nation Yisrael to the sword and wantonly slain the pious ones of the Most High. Therefore Zion cries bitterly, and Jerusalem puts forth her voice, 'My heart, my heart, over their slain; my innards, my innards over their slain!' For You Hashem, ignited it by fire - and with fire You will yet rebuild it, As it is said, "And I shall be, says Hashem, a wall of fire surrounding her, and I shall be glory in her midst" (Zecharyah 2:9). Blessed are You, Hashem, Who consoles Zion and rebuilds Jerusalem.

How do we say about Yerushalayim today that it is "destroyed of its residences," and "desolate with no inhabitant"? There are over half a million Jews in Yerushalayim today!

To the view that Hashem Himself will build the Third Beis Hamikdash, why does the Navi exhort us to learn and safeguard its building plan and dimensions? What part of the Mikdash will nevertheless be restored by the Jewish People?
