SOURCES

1) The Hidden Aspect of Rosh Hashanah -

What are the Scriptural sources that Rosh Hashanah is the Day of Judgment? Why doesn't the Torah tell us this explicitly?

DATE

2) Why Tishrei? -

To the view of Rebbi Yehoshua (that the world was created in Nisan), why did Hashem establish the Day of Judgement in Tishrei?

3) A Unique Day -

According to the view that Hashem judges man every day, what is unique about Rosh Hashanah?

ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR

4) Distinction -

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kipur are both days on which we are judged; what is the conceptual distinction between them?

5) Days of Teshuvah -

Is there a Scriptural source for the great potential for Teshuvah during this period of the year?

BEINONIM

6) Reprieve til Yom Kippur -

There seems to be a contradiction between the Beraisa (16a), and the statement of Rav Kruspeda'i (16b), as cited above. What group of people is it who have their judgment inscribed on Rosh Hashanah, and sealed on Yom Kippur?

7) Tipping the Scales -

The Gemara concludes that if a Beinoni does not achieve merit by Yom Kippur, he is inscribed for death. But Hashem's Midah "Rav Chesed" dictates that when one's scales are evenly balanced, He tilts them towards mercy!

1. Yosef Da'as to Rosh Hashanah 10:p2, ד"ה בראש השנה, til p3

8) When are they Sealed? -

Why doesn't Rav Kruspeda'i mention when the judgement of the Beinonim is sealed?

SCOPE OF JUDGEMENT

9) Collective and Individual -

In what sense does each person pass before Hashem for judgement individually? In what sense does Hashem scrutinize the deeds of the entire world in one moment (see Gemara RH 18a)?

10) In this world and the next -

It would seem that there many evildoers who live out the year, and many righteous who do not! How does the judgement of Rosh Hashanah relate to man's yearly portion in this world, and his portion in the world-to-come?
