| איתא בזוהר שחסידים הראשונים היו נעורים כל הלילה ועוסקים בתורה. וכבר נהגו רוב הלומדים לעשות כן. ואפשר לתת טעם על פי פשוטו לפי שישראל היו ישנים כל הלילה והוצרך הקדוש ברוך הוא להעיר אותם, כדאיתא במדרש, לכן אנו צריכים לתקן זה... | The Zohar states that the early pious ones would remain awake the entire night [on Shavuos] and learn Torah; and most Torah-learners have already adopted this custom. We can state a reason in the simple sense, because Yisrael slept the entire night [of Matan Torah] and it became necessary for Hashem to awaken them, as it states in the Midrash, therefore we must rectify this.... |
| ולענין ברכת התורה אני מסופק, דבסימן מ"ז סעיף י"ב כתב אף אם למד בלילה וכו' אין צריך לברך כל זמן שלא יישן, משמע דאם נעור כל הלילה אין צריך לברך ביום שלאחריו... מיהו קשה, דהא אנן קיימא לן שינה ביום לא הוי הפסק אפילו שינת קבע, אם כן יש לומר דגם בלילה השינה לא הוי הפסק אלא שמתחלה אין דעתינו לפטור רק ביום ולילה אחת, וכשקם בבוקר קודם עלות השחר אזי נחשב ליום שאחריו, תדע דהא לרבינו תם אין צריך לברך קודם עלות השחר דנפטר בברכה של אתמול עד שיאיר היום, אם כן לדידן נמי יש לומר כיון שנוהגין לברך כל היום ברכת התורה, אם כן מעיקרא לא היה דעתו לפטור רק ליום ולילה, ולכן צריך לברך ברכת התורה כשיאיר היום, וכן נראה עיקר. אך הרוצה לצאת ידי ספק ישמע ברכת התורה מאחר ויתכוין לצאת ידי חובתו: | Now, regarding [the morning blessings] of Birkas ha'Torah, I am in doubt. The Shulchan Aruch writes (47:12), "Even if one learns at night, he need not recite the blessings [anew], if he has not yet slept" - which would imply that if one stayed awake the entire night, he need not recite the Berachos on the following day .... Yet this is difficult; the established Halacha is that sleep during the day is not considered an interruption [for Birkos ha'Torah], even regular sleep; it would thus follow that even at night, sleep is not what constitutes an interruption. Rather, from the outset, our intent [in reciting Birkos ha'Torah] is only to exempt one day and one night - and when one arises early in the morning before dawn, it is considered the following day. We can prove this from the view of Rabeinu Tam that one does not need to recite Birkos ha'Torah [when one arises to learn] before dawn, because that learning is exempted by yesterday's Berachah, until daybreak. And as such, according to our view as well, we must answer that because our practice is to recite Birkos ha'Torah every day, his initial intent was only to exempt one day and night. Therefore, he must recite Birkos ha'Torah when day breaks; this appears to be the primary Halachah. However, one who wishes to avoid a situation of doubt should hear Birkos ha'Torah from someone else, and have in mind to fulfill his obligation. |

| ... ואיתא בשו"ע האר"י ז"ל, דע שכל מי שבלילה לא ישן כלל ועיקר והיה עוסק בתורה מובטח לו שישלים שנתו ולא יארע לו שום נזק... וצריכין ליזהר אותם הנעורים כל הלילה שלא לברך על נטילת ידים בבוקר רק אחר שעשה צרכיו קודם התפלה ואז מברך על נטילת ידים ואשר יצר וכמבואר לעיל בסימן ד' ס"ק ל', עיין שם. ולענין ברכה על טלית קטן יש דעות בין הפוסקים ועל כן יראה לכוין לפטור אותה בברכה שמברך על טלית גדול כמבואר לעיל סימן ח' במ"ב ס"ק מ"ב. ולענין ברכת התורה עיין לעיל בסימן מ"ז במ"ב ס"ק כ"ח, ולענין ברכת א-לקי נשמה וברכת המעביר שנה עיין בסימן מ"ו במ"ב ס"ק כ"ד. | ... And it is stated in the Shulchan Aruch of the Ari Za"l, "Know that whoever did not sleep [on this] night at all, and he was involved in learning, is assured of living out the year, and no harm will befall him." ... Now, those who remain awake all night must be careful not to recite "Al Netilas Yadayim" in the morning; rather only after relieving oneself prior to the Tefilah; then he recites "Al Netilas Yadayim" and "Asher Yatzar" as explained above 4:(30). As for a Berachah on a Talis Katan (that he was wearing the entire night), there are differing views among the Poskim, therefore it seems he should have in mind to exempt it with the Berachah he recites on the large Talis, as explained above 8:(42). As for Birkos ha'Torah, see above 47:(28); and regarding the Berachos of "Elokai, Neshamah" and "ha'Ma'avir Sheinah" see 46:(24) . |
