אני מאמין באמונה שלמה. בביאת המשיח. ואף על פי שיתמהמה. עם כל זה אחכה לו בכל יום שיבוא:	I believe with perfect faith, in the coming of Moshi'ach, and although he might tarry, nevertheless I shall await his coming each day.

תלמוד בבלי מסכת תענית ל:	Ta'anis 30b
שִׂמְחוּ אֶת יְרוּשָׁלִַם וְגִילוּ בָהּ כָּל אֹהֲבֶיהָ שִׂישׂוּ אִתָּהּ מָשׂוֹשׂ כָּל הַמִּתְאַבְּלִים עָלֶיהָ (ישע' סו:י) מכאן אמרו כל המתאבל על ירושלים זוכה ורואה בשמחתה ושאינו מתאבל על ירושלים אינו רואה בשמחתה.	"Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all that love her; rejoice for joy with her, all that mourn for her" (Yeshayah 66:10). From here we derive that whoever mourns over Yerushalayim will merit and see its rebuilding, whereas one who does not mourn over Yerushalayim will not merit it.

מדרש זוטא איכה	Midrash Zuta on Eichah
אֵין לָהּ מְנַחֵם מִכָּל אֹהֲבֶיהָ (א:ב). אמרו אותו היום שנכנסו אויבים לעיר והחריבו בית המקדש היה חוץ לירושלים יהודי אחד חורש במחרשתו וראה שהפרה שהיה חורש בה הפילה את עצמה לארץ ולא היתה רוצה לחרוש... שמע קול אומר מה לך לפרה הנח אותה שהיא צועקת על חורבן הבית ועל מקדש שנשרף היום. שמע האיש מיד קרע את בגדיו ותלש את שערו וצעק ונתן אפר על ראשו ובכה ואמר אוי נא לי אוי נא לי. לאחר ב' או ג' שעות עמדה הפרה על רגליה ורקדה ושמחה תמה האיש מאד שמע קול אומר טעון וחרוש כי בשעה זאת נולד משיח.	"She has none to comfort her from among all her lovers" (Eichah 1:2). On the day that enemies entered the city and destroyed the Temple, a Jew far outside Jerusalem was plowing, and he saw that the cow he was plowing with threw herself to the ground and would not plow ... He heard a voice saying, What do you have against the cow? Leave her be, she is crying out about the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash that burned today." Hearing this, the man immediately tore his clothes, tore his hair, cried out, put ashes on his head and cried, "Woe to me, woe to me!" After two or three hours, the cow stood on its feet, and danced and rejoiced. The man was very surprised; he heard a voice saying, "Load it and plow, for at this hour the Mashiach was born."

תלמוד בבלי מסכת סנהדרין צח.	Sanhedrin 98a
אמר רבי אלכסנדרי רבי יהושע בן לוי רמי כתיב בְּעִתָּהּ וכתיב אֲחִישֶׁנָּה (ישעיה ס:כב)? זכו אחישנה, לא זכו בעתה...	R. Alexandri asked, "b'Itah" connotes that Mashi'ach will come in the proper time; "Achishenah" (Yeshayah 60:22) connotes that Hashem will bring him early! If we merit, He will bring him early. If not, he will come in the proper time...
רבי יהושע בן לוי אשכח לאליהו דהוי קיימי אפיתחא דמערתא דרבי שמעון בן יוחאי ... אמר ליה אימת אתי משיח? אמר ליה זיל שייליה לדידיה! והיכא יתיב? אפיתחא דרומי. ומאי סימניה? יתיב ביני עניי סובלי חלאים וכולן שרו ואסירי בחד זימנא, איהו שרי חד ואסיר חד אמר דילמא מבעינא, דלא איעכב. אזל לגביה אמר ליה שלום עליך רבי ומורי! אמר ליה שלום עליך בר ליואי! אמר ליה לאימת אתי מר? אמר ליה היום. אתא לגבי אליהו ... אמר ליה שקורי קא שקר בי דאמר לי היום אתינא ולא אתא! אמר ליה הכי אמר לך הַיּוֹם אִם בְּקֹלוֹ תִשְׁמָעוּ (תהלים צה:ז).	R. Yehoshua ben Levi found Eliyahu by the cave of R. Shimon (in which he hid for 13 years). He asked, when will Mashi'ach come? Eliyahu said, ask Mashi'ach himself! Where is he? Eliyahu said, he is at the entrance of the city of Rome. He asked, how will I recognize him? Eliyahu said, he is sitting among poor sick people. They undo all their bandages at the same time and retie them. He opens only one at a time, to minimize the delay in case he will suddenly be called to redeem Yisrael. R. Yehoshua ben Levi went there, and said to Mashi'ach, Shalom to you, my Rebbi and teacher! Mashi'ach said, Shalom to you, son of Levi! He asked, when will Rebbi come? Mashi'ach said, 'Today!' R. Yehoshua ben Levi went back to Eliyahu... He said, he lied to me! He said 'I will come today', but he did not! Eliyahu said, he meant "ha'Yom Im b'Kolo Sishma'u" (Today - if you hearken unto His Voice - Tehilim 95:7).
