THE EFFECTS OF REVELATION

1) To see the sounds -

In what sense did Bnei Yisrael "see" the sounds of Matan Torah?

2) Healing -

Chazal derive from "the entire nation saw," that there was not even one blind person among them - because Hashem healed them. How did Torah bring about healing?

3) Before or After? -

When did the events in this section take place (i.e. the people saw, trembled, and retreated; and asked Moshe to speak on Hashem's behalf)?

4) "And they lived" -

Why did Bnei Yisrael fear that they would die upon hearing the Voice of Hashem? Did they?

5) To uplift and to test -

Moshe told the people that Hashem has come "l'Va'avur Nasos Eschem." What is the meaning of the term "Nasos"?

6) Fear of Heaven -

How would Hashem's revelation result in Yir'as Shamayim?

7) Fear and Love -

Why does Moshe provides two reasons here, for Hashem's having spoken directly at Matan Torah?

8) A Sense of Shame -

What defining characteristic of Yisrael do we derive from this Pasuk (v. 17)? How is this trait an expression of "fear of Hashem upon your faces"?

TO PERPETUATE THE CONNECTION

9) Direct Involvement -

Why does Hashem emphasize that we ourselves saw how He spoke from Heaven? Why is that the reason that we must not make images?

10) No Intermediaries -

What images are forbidden by the term "Iti" - with Me? Why are these forbidden?

11) The Keruvim in the Mikdash -

Rashi derives that any changes from the Torah's specifications regarding the Keruvim, be it in their material, their number or location, renders them forbidden images, tantamount to idolatry. But why are there Keruvim in the Beis Hamikdash at all? Why are these beyond any trace suspicion of Avodah Zarah?

12) An Earthen Altar -

Why is the Mizbe'ach called "Mizbach Adamah" - an Altar of earth? Why is the Mizbe'ach defined by the mere earth that fills it?

13) The Antidote to Idolatry -

Why is the Mitzvah to construct an earthen Mizbe'ach given here, immediately following the prohibitions relating to Avodah Zarah?

14) Obtaining Hashem's Blessings -

With these guidelines as to how Hashem should be served, how then should one obtain His blessings? How is the end of the Pasuk (mentioning Hashem's Name) related to the beginning (making an earthen Mizbe'ach)?

15) A Stone Altar -

If building a stone altar would be mandatory (see Rashi), why does the Torah use the term "Im," implying that it is optional? What does this teach us about service of Hashem?

16) No Swords in the Mikdash -

Why does using a sword on the stones of the Mizbe'ach, disqualify them?

17) No steps on the Altar -

What negative character traits are reflected by "ascending stairs"? How can this lesson be applied to our own service of Hashem?
