Erev Tish'ah b'Av

שולחן ערוך סימן תקנג, סעיף ב' בהגה	Shulchan Aruch OC Siman 553:2 (Rama)
ונהגו שלא ללמוד בערב תשעה באב מחצות ואילך, כי אם בדברים המותרים בתשעה באב; ולכן אם חל בשבת אין אומרים פרקי אבות, וכן לא יטייל ערב תשעה באב.	The custom is not to learn Torah on Erev Tishah b'Av from midday and on, except for matters permissible to learn on Tishah b'Av itself. Therefore, if it falls out on Shabbos, we do not say Pirkei Avos. Also, one should not go for a stroll on Erev Tishah b'Av.

א. ערב תשעה באב לא יאכל אדם בסעודה המפסקת, שאוכלה אחר חצות, בשר, ולא ישתה יין ולא יאכל שני תבשילין.	1. On Erev Tishah b'Av, at the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes (the final meal before the fast) - if it is eaten after midday - a person may not eat meat or drink wine, and he may not eat of two cooked dishes.
ה. ... הגה: ויש נוהגים לאכול ביצים קשים, שהוא ג"כ מאכל אבלים.	5. Rama: Some have the custom to eat hard-boiled eggs, which is food of mourners.
ו. מי שאפשר לו, לא יאכל בסעודה המפסקת אלא פת חריבה במלח וקיתון של מים. הגה: ויש מחמירים לטבל אחר אכילתן פת באפר ולאכלו, על שם ויגרס בחצץ וגו' (איכה ג:טז).	6. One who is able should eat at the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes only empty bread with salt, and a flask of water. Rama: Some, after eating, dip bread into ashes and eat this, based on the Pasuk in Eichah 3:15.
ז. נהגו לישב על גבי קרקע בסעודה המפסקת (ואין צריך לחלוץ מנעליו).	7. The custom is to sit on the ground during the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes (but it is not necessary to remove one's shoes).
ח. יש ליזהר שלא ישבו שלשה לאכול בסעודה המפסקת, כדי שלא יתחייבו בזימון; אלא כל אחד ישב לבדו ויברך לעצמו.	8. One should be careful that a group of three should not sit together at the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes, so that they will not become obligated in a Zimun; rather, each one sits alone and recites Birkas ha'Mazon alone.
ט. כל זה בסעודה המפסקת שאין דעתו לאכול עוד אחריה סעודת קבע, וכשהוא אחר חצות; אבל אם היה קודם חצות, או אחר חצות ודעתו לאכול אחריה סעודת קבע, אין צריך ליזהר בדברים הללו. הגה: ומנהג בכל גלילות אשכנז לאכול סעודה קבועה קודם מנחה, ואחר כך מתפללין מנחה ואוכלים סעודה מפסקת. ונוהגין להרבות קצת בסעודה ראשונה, כדי שלא יזיק להם התענית הואיל ופוסקים מבעוד יום כמו ביום כיפורים; ויש קצת ראיה לזה ממדרש איכה רבתי, מיהו מי שיוכל לסגף עצמו ויודע בעצמו שאין התענית מזיק לו ומחמיר על עצמו, נקרא קדוש כנ"ל.	9. All this applies only to the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes - i.e. one does not intend to eat another fixed meal afterwards - and after midday. But if it is before midday, or if it is after midday but he intends to eat another fixed meal afterwards, he need not be careful in the above matters. Rama: The custom in all regions of Ashkenaz is to eat a fixed meal before Mincha, then pray Mincha, and then to eat the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes. We are accustomed to add a little more (food) to the first meal, in order that the fast not harm them, since we stop eating while it is still day, just like on Yom Kippur. And there is a slight proof for this from the Midrash. However, one who is able to afflict himself and knows that the fast won't harm him, and is strict on himself, is called holy - so it seems to me.
י. אם חל תשעה באב באחד בשבת, או שחל בשבת ונדחה לאחר השבת, אוכל בשר ושותה יין בסעודה המפסקת ומעלה על שלחנו אפילו כסעודת שלמה בעת מלכותו. (מיהו צריך להפסיק מבעוד יום).	10. If Tishah b'Av falls on Sunday, or on Shabbos and is pushed off until after Shabbos, one may eat meat and drink wine at the Se'udah ha'Mafsekes, and put food on his table even like King Shlomo's table. Rama: However he must stop eating while still day.
