וַיְחַל מֹשֶׁה אֶת פְּנֵי ה' אֱ-לֹקָיו וַיֹּאמֶר לָמָה ה' יֶחֱרֶה אַפְּךָ בְּעַמֶּךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵאתָ מֵאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם בְּכֹחַ גָּדוֹל וּבְיָד חֲזָקָה: לָמָּה יֹאמְרוּ מִצְרַיִם לֵאמֹר בְּרָעָה הוֹצִיאָם לַהֲרֹג אֹתָם בֶּהָרִים וּלְכַלֹּתָם מֵעַל פְּנֵי הָאֲדָמָה שׁוּב מֵחֲרוֹן אַפֶּךָ וְהִנָּחֵם עַל הָרָעָה לְעַמֶּךָ: זְכֹר לְאַבְרָהָם לְיִצְחָק וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵל עֲבָדֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ לָהֶם בָּךְ וַתְּדַבֵּר אֲלֵהֶם אַרְבֶּה אֶת זַרְעֲכֶם כְּכוֹכְבֵי הַשָּׁמָיִם וְכָל הָאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת אֲשֶׁר אָמַרְתִּי אֶתֵּן לְזַרְעֲכֶם וְנָחֲלוּ לְעֹלָם: וַיִּנָּחֶם ה' עַל הָרָעָה אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר לַעֲשׂוֹת לְעַמּוֹ: (שני)

וַיֹּאמֶר ה' אֶל מֹשֶׁה פְּסָל לְךָ שְׁנֵי לֻחֹת אֲבָנִים כָּרִאשֹׁנִים וְכָתַבְתִּי עַל הַלֻּחֹת אֶת הַדְּבָרִים אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ עַל הַלֻּחֹת הָרִאשֹׁנִים אֲשֶׁר שִׁבַּרְתָּ: וֶהְיֵה נָכוֹן לַבֹּקֶר וְעָלִיתָ בַבֹּקֶר אֶל הַר סִינַי וְנִצַּבְתָּ לִי שָׁם עַל רֹאשׁ הָהָר: וְאִישׁ לֹא יַעֲלֶה עִמָּךְ וְגַם אִישׁ אַל יֵרָא בְּכָל הָהָר גַּם הַצֹּאן וְהַבָּקָר אַל יִרְעוּ אֶל מוּל הָהָר הַהוּא: (שלישי) וַיִּפְסֹל שְׁנֵי לֻחֹת אֲבָנִים כָּרִאשֹׁנִים וַיַּשְׁכֵּם מֹשֶׁה בַבֹּקֶר וַיַּעַל אֶל הַר סִינַי כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה ה' אֹתוֹ וַיִּקַּח בְּיָדוֹ שְׁנֵי לֻחֹת אֲבָנִים: וַיֵּרֶד ה' בֶּעָנָן וַיִּתְיַצֵּב עִמּוֹ שָׁם וַיִּקְרָא בְשֵׁם ה': וַיַּעֲבֹר ה' עַל פָּנָיו וַיִּקְרָא ה' ה' קֵ-ל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן אֶרֶךְ אַפַּיִם וְרַב חֶסֶד וֶאֱמֶת: נֹצֵר חֶסֶד לָאֲלָפִים נֹשֵׂא עָוֹן וָפֶשַׁע וְחַטָּאָה וְנַקֵּה לֹא יְנַקֶּה פֹּקֵד עֲוֹן אָבוֹת עַל בָּנִים וְעַל בְּנֵי בָנִים עַל שִׁלֵּשִׁים וְעַל רִבֵּעִים: וַיְמַהֵר מֹשֶׁה וַיִּקֹּד אַרְצָה וַיִּשְׁתָּחוּ: וַיֹּאמֶר אִם נָא מָצָאתִי חֵן בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֲ-דֹנָי יֵלֶךְ נָא אֲ-דֹנָי בְּקִרְבֵּנוּ כִּי עַם קְשֵׁה עֹרֶף הוּא וְסָלַחְתָּ לַעֲוֹנֵנוּ וּלְחַטָּאתֵנוּ וּנְחַלְתָּנוּ: וַיֹּאמֶר הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי כֹּרֵת בְּרִית נֶגֶד כָּל עַמְּךָ אֶעֱשֶׂה נִפְלָאֹת אֲשֶׁר לֹא נִבְרְאוּ בְכָל הָאָרֶץ וּבְכָל הַגּוֹיִם וְרָאָה כָל הָעָם אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה בְקִרְבּוֹ אֶת מַעֲשֵׂה ה' כִּי נוֹרָא הוּא אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי עֹשֶׂה עִמָּךְ:

And Moses supplicated before Hashem his G-d, and said: 'Hashem, why shall Your wrath flare against Your people, that You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians speak, saying: For evil did He bring them forth, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and reconsider about the evil against Your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom You did swear by Your own Self, and You said unto them: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever!' And Hashem reconsidered of the evil which He said He would do unto His people. (2nd Aliyah)

Hashem said unto Moses: 'Hew for yourself two tablets of stone, like the first ones; and I will write upon the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you shattered. And be ready for the morning, and come up in the morning unto Mount Sinai, and present yourself to Me there, on the top of the mountain. And no man shall come up with you, neither let any man be seen on all the mountain; neither let the flocks nor herds graze before that mountain.' (3rd Aliyah) He hewed two tablets of stone, like the first ones, and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to Mount Sinai, as Hashem had commanded him; and took in his hand two tablets of stone. And Hashem descended in the cloud, and stationed Himself with him there; and Hashem proclaimed the Name. And Hashem passed by before him, and proclaimed: 'Hashem, Hashem, G-d merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. Keeping mercy to thousands [of generations], forgiving iniquity, wanton transgression and sin; and cleanses - and that will by no means clear [the guilty], He visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and unto the fourth generation.' And Moses hastened, and bowed his head toward the earth, and bowed down. And he said: 'If now I have found grace in your eyes, O L-rd, let the L-rd, I pray You, go in our midst; for it is a stiff-necked people; and may You pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Your inheritance. And He said: 'Behold, I make a covenant; before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been made in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people that you are among them shall see the work of Hashem that I am about to do with you, that it is tremendous.
