(a)Rebbi Chanina compares the pain that one experiences as the Neshamah departs from the body to forcing a knotted rope through the hole of a mast. Rebbi Yochanan describes it as - tearing apart two ropes that tie two ships together.

(b)Rebbi Levi learns from the Pasuk "v'Ata Tavo el Avosecha b'Shalom" - that when taking leave from a dead person one says 'Lech be'Shalom' (and not 'le'Shalom').

(c)And he learns from ...

1. ... David ha'Melech, who said to Avshalom "Lech be'Shalom" - that one should never say this to someone who is alive, because Avshalom was subsequently killed (and David never saw him again).

2. ... Moshe Rabeinu, who said to Yisro "Lech le'Shalom" - that this is the correct thing to say to a live person, since Yisro then came close to the Shechinah (he converted to Judaism). The reason for this is because "Lech le'Shalom" implies moving forward towards peace, whereas "Lech be'Shalom" implies remaining static (Ritva).

(a)Rebbi Levi learns from the Pasuk "Yelchu me'Chayil el Chayil ,Yera'eh el Elokim b'Tziyon" - that someone who goes from the Beis ha'Kneses to the Beis-ha'Medrash, and from the Beis ha'Medrash to the Beis ha'Kneses, will merit to receive the Shechinah.

(b)Rav Chiya bar Ashi Amar Rav learns from the same Pasuk that just as Talmidei-Chachamim know no rest in this world (because they are always striving to reach new heights), so too, will they know no rest in the World to Come, as they ascend from one level of Gan Eden to another.
