1)THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MACHAVAS AND MARCHESHES
Translation: Our Mishnah asked, what is the difference between Machavas and Marcheshes? R. Yosi ha'Galili said, a Marcheshes has a cover, but a Machavas does not. The Gemara asked, what is R. Yosi ha'Gelili's reason? Perhaps he holds that Marcheshes atones for Rechushei ha'Lev, like "Rachash Libi Davar Tov." ''Machavas' is brought for 'Machbu'ei ha'Peh', like people say 'Menave'ach Nevuchei'. We could learn oppositely! Machavas is for Machbo'ei ha'Lev - "Lamah Nachbeisa Livro'ach." Marcheshes is for Rechushei (moving, i.e. of the lips), like people say 'Merachashan Sifsosei'! Rather, R. Yosi has a tradition.
(a)What is the question 'what is R. Yosi's reason?'
1.Rashi: What is his source that a Marcheshes has a cover, and a Machavas does not?
(b)What are Rechushei ha'Lev?
1.Rashi: They are hidden (sinful) thoughts in the heart. Therefore, the Korban for them is made in a covered pot.
i.Maharsha, ha'Boneh: Also Olah atones for sinful thoughts! Olah is for an Ashir; an Oni brings a Minchah.
(c)Do we know for what Menachos atone?
1.Maharsha: The Torah revealed what animal Korbanos atone for; it did not reveal about Menachos. Therefore, we suggested that the ways they are made (ha'Boneh - their names) teach about for what they atone.
(d)What are Machbu'ei ha'Peh?
1.Rashi: They utterances of the mouth, e.g. gossip, which is open.
(e)What are Machbo'ei ha'Lev?
1.Rashi: They are matters hidden and covered in the heart.
2.Maharsha: [Yakov] hid what was in his heart - "va'Tignov Es Levavi."
