DAF DISCUSSIONS - ROSH HASHANAH 26

David lowy asked:

the gemera discussed a shofer and why it would be problematical to blow it if it had gold becasue even though it is outside of the kodesh kedashim, but since it is for a zikoron it is "k'bifnim dami", can you please explain to me what that is supposed to mean? -Thank you!

David lowy,

The Kollel replies:

The Gemara in Shabbos (131b) states that there is a special aspect to Shofar in that "it brings in the rememberance of Bnei Yisrael before our Father in Heaven." The terminology of "brings in" and "before" imply that the Kedushah of the Mitzvah of Shofar is so great that it is allowed into a holy place in Shamayim tantamount to the Avodah done in the Kodesh Kodoshim, which is the holiest place on earth. Many Sefarim tell us that everything on Earth relates to a place in Shamayim (see Sha'ar ha'Gemul regarding Gan Eden). It therefore appears that these Gemaros tell us that the Mitzvah of Shofar is brought into an inner chamber close to the Shechinah, just as the Kohen's Avodah is done in the Kodesh Kodoshim in a place of intense Hashra'as ha'Shechinah.

Take Care,

Yaakov Montrose
