DAF DISCUSSIONS - SHABBOS 29

gabriel shagabayev asks:

Rav Hamnuna offers an answer to the problem that this case if when he lit it the wick was less than 3 by 3. How can that be isn't that a broken kli. the halacha is you CAN'T LIGHT WITH A BROKEn kli

gabriel shagabayev, brooklyn

The Kollel replies:

Rashi writes that the wick was less than 3 by 3 Tefachim (handbreadths). The minimum size of an item of clothing that can receive tuma is 3 by 3 Etzba'os (fingerbreadths; there are 4 Etzba'os in a Tefach). So 3 by 3 Tefachim is not a broken Kli.
