sanhedrin 98 - section 4 H. There is a lav davka in the Hebrew.
I am in the middle of an argument about whether machiach could come from the dead according to the gemorah and rashi.
can you explain that line clearly?
According to both explanations in Rashi, Mashiach cannot come from the dead.
According to his first explanation, the Gemara means that "if Mashiach has already come and died , then he was Daniel." According to that possibility, there will be another person chosen by Hash-m as Mashiach when the time comes.
According to his second explanation, the Gemara is saying that "if Mashiach, who is yet to come, will be comparable in greatness to someone who lived already but who is no longer living, then Mashiach will be comparable in greatness to Daniel."
This is the explanation of the Gemara.
