I take a number of medications, though why or how they cure me, I don't generally know. Likewise, Chazal, who were great doctors, teach us that beets and beer made from hops, prevents the skin disease called 'Ra'asan'.
I cannot tell you why - Chazal could. I don't understand your objection to our original answer.
