1. Avrahom asks:

A gutten Erev Shabbos to the Chavrei hakollel hakadosh! May you have a wonderful Shabbos Zachor (with no Yotzros).

Maybe I'm an Am Ha'aretz.

I'm curious why pashut pshat, Isha U-bitah not Isha oh Bitah. Whether read as ooo, ot v'bitah. I man takes the daughter he married simultaneously with the mother is Sreifah.

What am I missing that indicates Ishah u'Bitah, that the Ervah is are two separate acts, his mother in law, and her mother (his wife's maternal and paternal grandmother's are Shtei Arayos if my memory serves me correctly.

In summary, I understand the Gemara. I'm curious as to why the act of being with two arayos simultaneously is such a Zimah so you get sereifah. But that line of derush seems non existent.

2. The Kollel replies:

Dear Avrahom,

There are no two Arayos simultaneously. After he has a wife with permission, he cannot take her daughter, etc., and that is called Ishah u'Vitah (but see further).

Concerning Zimah, Rashi explains plans of sinning. The Ramban adds that here even when living with his wife he will be thinking of the forbidden woman because they are alike to each other (18:17); the Ramban adds that this is the reason of Ishah u'Vitah, that there are thoughts of sin by both women.

All the best,
