The Kollel replies:
This is written by the Maharal of Prague in his Chidushim to Maseches Eruvin 12a (cited in Nesivos Shabbos by Rav Yaakov Blau zt'l, page 249). He writes that the Lechi stands next to the "mouth" of the Mavuy, which is the opening.
