The tosafos question here does not seem to refer to the earlier point in the tosafos about binyan av and gez shava!! It seems to go back to the gemaras point about learning form words which are not exactly the same?? AVON and AVONO? is that correct or am I misunderstanding the question here?

Hi Alex,
As far as I understand, you are correct. Tosfos seems to be asking a new question regardless of what he said before. I can bring some evidence to this from the question some Acharonim (such as the Be'er Sheva on Horiyos) ask on Tosfos, that this question is asked in the Gemara in Horiyos (8b) already. We can learn from this question that these Acharonim also understood the question of Tosfos as a separate question.
