The gemara on lamud aleph amud beis says that the Rabanon said something in front of Rav Pappa. Rashi says that the Rabonon were students of Rav Pappa. How does Rashi know that they were his talmidim and not other just other scholars?

The term 'Amruha Rabanan Kamei d'Rav ... ' implies that the Rav whose name is mentioned, is the Rosh Yeshivah, and the speakers are his Talmidim. Otherwise, why are their names not mentioned?
