I looked at "BE'ER HA'GOLAH, ch. 6, for the Maharal's approach to this Agadah. " as Artscroll also cited but would not explain and I am not following well. Can you please summarize for me so I can go back and follow?
Chaim schild, ny usa
Dear Chaim,
We will try to explain 4 points of the Maharal. (Please realize that someone who knows or even excels in simple math can't follow a formula in differential calculus, even after reading a summary.) I will only translate his main concepts without explaining them:
1) "Kol" is not physical sound. Rather, it refers to changing something from a state of potential to a state of actual existence.
2) If A is "Menaser" to B, A has dominion, or rules, over B.
3) "Raki'a" is not referring to the physical heavens here, but rather to the difference between the upper and lower worlds.
4) "Lo" refers to the total disappearence of B due to A's dominion.
Thus, the dominion of the sun over the world leaves the world's "dust" as Lo, negligeable, and the actual energy of people is dwarfed by the sun's influence.
May we merit to understand better Hash-m's Torah.
All the best
