According to what I was recently told, in Yoma 5:1 is a detailed description of what takes place on Yom Kippur. These extra details help indicate the position and design of the Ark within the Most Holy place. Can you please tell me what the original texts indicate, and which is the best English translation for obtaining a clear understanding of this?
Thank you for your help,
Warm regards, Ross Patterson, Wellington, New Zealand
Greetings,
You can find a comprehensive outline of the Talmud's discussion on our website at http://www.dafyomi.co.il/yoma/points/points-up.htm and click on 51 and 52 et esq. (Look from 51b #4.) Also, your local library should have one of the two English translations (Soncino, ArtScroll) of the Talmud.
In addition, on your next visit to the Holy Land, we recommend that you pick up some of the excellent, illustrated books on the Holy Temple and Holy Vessels. (The better ones are in Hebrew, but the pictures are worth it. Also, the books published by Jewish scholars are generally much more accurate in terms of source and reference reliability than those of non-Jewish scholars.)
Be well,
