DAF DISCUSSIONS - SUKAH 48

Aaron Pacanowski asked:

There was a story in the story in the Gemara that once at the Simchas Beis Hashoevah there was a Tzidoki Kohen Gadol that poured the water over his legs. Everyone threw their Esrogim at him which stoned him. Why were they holding their Esrogim? It was night.

Aaron Pacanowski

The Kollel replies:

Aaron,

Although the water was drawn at night, it was poured on the Mizbe'ach by day, together with the Korban Tamid. The Gemara in Yoma 26b proves from this story that it was poured by the morning Tamid (as opposed to the evening Tamid), since that is when the Esrog and Lulav are held.

Best wishes,

Mordecai Kornfeld
