DAF DISCUSSIONS - GITIN 31

David Kastor asks:

From the Point By Point Outline on the Daf-

>>(g) (Geneiva): Four winds blow every day. The north wind accompanies all of them. If not for the north wind, the world could not endure at all.

1.The east wind is the harshest. An angel called 'Netz' restrains it. If not, it would destroy the entire world

(h)(Rav): The east wind can make a woman miscarry<<

the gemora mentioned Rava, not Rav? Can you verify this also?

My question is that it is about South, not east. can you verify this and let me know?

Thanks,

David

The Kollel replies:

Dear David,

Concerning Rava, please look again- Rava says this in Rav's name- so no correction is necessary.

You are right on the other point. It should read "the south wind is the harshest. An angel etc."

Rashi DH Ela in Bava Basra 25a explains that the east wind is not called the harshest because it is mild when normal but when it comes for punishment it is harsh.

All the best,
