We end up learning from the statement that any day that has musaf like rosh chodesh and chol hamoed has 4 aliyas that we base the amount of aliyas on what one day has over the other.
For ex. rosh chodesh/ chol hamoed-4 it has musaf
yom tov -5 it has issur melacha in addition to musaf
yom kippur-6 it has kares on top of issur melacha and musaf
shabos-7 cause it has skila.
Why should shabbos have more aliyas than yom kippur. It dosen't have anything necessarily above yom kippur- only a diffrent punnishment if it is violated. It should have 6 like yom kippur. why does it have 7?

Dear Ari,
Hello there and thanks for the question. The purpose is that people should realize that Chilul Shabbos carries a heavier punishment than violation of Yom Kipur. The Mishnah Berurah 611:4 adds that there are practical differences even nowadays that we don't deal with capital punishment.

Thanks. After I sent the question I thought that a possible answer was that shabbos does have kares in that if a person was mechalel shabbos bmaizid without eidim and hasrah he would be chayav kares. So in reality, the fact that shabbos has more aliyas than yom kippur makes sense since it has kares and in addition has skila as well. Does that logic make sense?
Dear Ari,
Hello there.
Yes, you described it very accurately.
