DAF DISCUSSIONS - BAVA METZIA 21

Question asked:

What does it mean that there are two types of ganavim? That it is a listim mezuyan. What is the difference between that and a gazlan?

The Kollel replies:

The armed robber is hiding behind his gun; he is not as brazen as the Gazlan. Therefore, although he is not a hidden thief like the Ganav, we consider him a Ganav with regard to paying Kefel, and not a Gazlan.
