Why is the cheilev of a domestic animal permitted to eat but from wild animal it is forbidden to eat?
alan, ISRAEL Ramat Beit Shemesh Aleph
Dear Alan,
Hello there and thanks for your inquiry. It is very hard to give reason for this division. The Chinuch (Mitzvah 147) and the Rambam (Moreh Nevuchim chp 48) maintain that the prohibition against eating domestic animal fat is because it is harmful to the body. Perhaps this applies only to fat from a domestic animal.
All the best.
